Privacy policy
Our privacy commitment
Your words belong to you. Here is the limited data Wordzl uses, why it is used and the choices you have.
No Wordzl account to create. No played words sent to PostHog. Ad tracking is your choice.
Who is responsible?
Wordzl is published by BnC Consulting SAS (Bits’n Coffee), Lille, France, company number SIREN 879 608 040, represented by Clément Sauvage. We are responsible for processing carried out for Wordzl. Contact us at [email protected].
This policy covers the Wordzl application. It does not replace Apple’s, Google’s or PostHog’s policies for their own services.
The game and Apple services
Playing does not require your name, email address or a separate Wordzl account. Settings, progress and game data are stored on your device. Wordzl does not request access to your contacts or precise location.
When you use Game Center, Apple processes the player profile, identifiers, scores, achievements and match data needed for leaderboards, trophies and duels. Your nickname, results and information needed for a duel may be visible to other players.
If you enable iCloud sync, your daily library and related progress are synced in your Apple account’s private CloudKit database. These services follow your Apple settings and Apple’s privacy policy.
Crashes and diagnostics
We use diagnostics made available by Apple to investigate crashes and improve stability, subject to your Apple analytics-sharing settings. These may include device, system and app version details and information about an error.
The AdMob advertising SDK also collects crash, diagnostic and performance data for its operation. Wordzl has no separate Sentry or Crashlytics integration.
Advertising and IDFA
Wordzl displays ads through Google AdMob. Access to Apple’s advertising identifier (IDFA) requires your permission in the iOS tracking prompt. You can decline and still play, and change your choice in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Without this permission, Wordzl requests non-personalized ads and does not send IDFA to AdMob. Other processing can still occur: Google may receive your IP address, technical identifiers other than IDFA, device information, ad interactions and diagnostics to deliver and measure ads and prevent fraud. IP addresses can indicate an approximate location.
Where Google’s consent form is shown, it records your choices. Wordzl’s ad privacy options let you review them when available. iOS tracking permission and advertising preferences are separate settings.
PostHog analytics
PostHog helps us understand app openings, viewed screens and games started, completed or abandoned, along with mode, dictionary, board size, score, duration and counts of words or errors. Events include a pseudonymous identifier and technical app and device information. Network requests also make your IP address available to the service.
We do not send played words, board contents or your Game Center identity to PostHog. Session replay, automatic interaction capture, person profiles and IP-based geographic enrichment are disabled. The project uses PostHog’s European endpoint.
Usage sharing is enabled by default in the current version. You can turn it off using “Share Usage Analytics” in Wordzl’s settings. This stops new usage events; it does not automatically erase previously received events.
Feature availability
Wordzl also checks PostHog for available features (feature flags). These checks continue when analytics is turned off and may send the pseudonymous identifier and technical information needed for the request. They remotely enable or disable game features without sending your played words or Game Center identity.
Purposes, legal bases and recipients
Providing the game services you request is based on performance of the service. Diagnostics, feature configuration and usage analytics rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the game reliable and improving it, subject to consent where legally required. Ad tracking and IDFA access rely on your consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect earlier lawful processing.
The publisher and relevant providers — Apple, Google AdMob and PostHog — access data as needed for these purposes. If you contact us, we use your email address and message to respond. Providers may process data outside the European Economic Area; their applicable policies and agreements describe processing locations and transfer safeguards, including adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses where applicable.
Retention and deletion
Local data remains on your device until deleted, including when you delete the app. iCloud and Game Center data is managed separately through Apple; deleting Wordzl does not necessarily erase it.
Technical and analytics data is retained as needed to diagnose issues, analyse releases and improve the game, subject to the relevant services’ retention settings. Support messages are retained while handling your request and follow-up. Legal obligations may require longer retention. Contact us to request deletion of data we can associate with your use; switching off collection does not delete existing records.
Your rights and choices
Under applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your data, and object to certain processing. Email [email protected]. We may request only the information necessary to locate the relevant data and verify your request. You may also complain to France’s CNIL (cnil.fr) or your local data protection authority.
You control analytics in Wordzl, advertising choices through the app’s available options, and tracking, diagnostics and Apple services in your device settings. We will update this policy if Wordzl’s practices change; the date above identifies the current version.
